Decay of the Turbulent Cascade of Capillary Waves on the Charged Surface of Liquid Hydrogen

چکیده
We study the free decay of capillary turbulence on the charged surface of liquid hydrogen. We find that the decay begins from the high frequency spectral domain of the surface oscillations and is of a quasi-adiabatic character. The characteristic relaxation time of the whole turbulent cascade is close to the viscous damping time for capillary waves of frequency equal to the driving frequency. PACS: 47.27.-i, 47.25.+i

Formation and Decay of Capillary Turbulence on the Charged Surface of Liquid Hydrogen
We study the formation and the free decay of capillary turbulence on the charged surface of liquid hydrogen on the switching on, and off, of a narrowband driving force. It is observed that the decay begins from the high frequency spectral domain of the surface oscillations and is of a quasi-adiabatic character. The characteristic relaxation time of the whole turbulent cascade is close to the vi...
متن کاملTwo different regimes of the turbulent wave cascade decay on the surface of quantum liquids
We report recent results of the experimental study of capillary turbulence decay on the surface of quantum liquids: normal and superfluid He and liquid hydrogen. In our experiments the turbulent cascade of capillary waves was damped at high frequencies due to viscous dissipation. Turbulent spectrum in high-frequency dissipative region was described by exponential decay function which was in acc...
متن کاملQuasiadiabatic decay of capillary turbulence on the charged surface of liquid hydrogen.
We study the free decay of capillary turbulence on the charged surface of liquid hydrogen. We find that decay begins from the high frequency end of the spectral range, while most of the energy remains localized at low frequencies. The apparent discrepancy with the self-similar theory of nonstationary wave turbulent processes is accounted for in terms of a quasiadiabatic decay wherein fast nonli...
متن کاملNon-Stationary Nonlinear Phenomena on the Charged Surface of Liquid Hydrogen
Investigations of nonlinear phenomena on the charged surface of liquid hydrogen are reviewed. It is demonstrated that excitation of the surface by a low frequency ac electric field results in the formation of capillary waves in the high frequency domain, and that the latter exhibit turbulence. The quasi-adiabatic decay of this capillary turbulence has been studied both experimentally and theore...
متن کاملOn Interaction of T S Waves and 3 D Localized Disturbance in a Divergent Flow Under Zero Pressure Gradient
To simulate the effect of free st ream turbulence on turbulent spot formation, experiments were conducted on the interaction of localized three-dimensional disturbances with the harmonic waves in a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. Experiments conducted in three-dimensional diverging flow (but zero pressure gradient) show, while individually the disturbances decay downstream, their intera...
